Frequently Asked Questions

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body, known as acupoints, to balance the flow of energy (Qi) and enhance the body’s natural healing processes. This can lead to improved physical and emotional well-being.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people experience minimal discomfort during acupuncture. The needles are very thin, and the sensation is often described as a slight pinch or tingling. Many find the experience relaxing.

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed varies depending on the condition being treated, its severity, and individual response to treatment. Some people notice improvements after just one session, while others may require multiple sessions over several weeks or months.

Are there any side effects of acupuncture?

Acupuncture is generally safe when performed by a trained practitioner. Minor side effects may include slight bruising, bleeding, or soreness at the needle sites. Serious side effects are rare.

What should I expect during my first acupuncture session?

During your first session, the practitioner will conduct a thorough assessment of your health history and current concerns. You will then lie down on a massage table, and the practitioner will insert needles at specific points. The needles typically remain in place for 15-30 minutes.

How should I prepare for an acupuncture session?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing, and have a light meal before your session. Avoid strenuous activities and alcohol before and after treatment. It’s also helpful to arrive with an open mind and a relaxed attitude.

Can acupuncture be combined with other treatments?

Yes, acupuncture can complement other treatments, including conventional medical treatments, physical therapy, and other holistic practices. Always inform your healthcare provider about any complementary treatments you’re receiving.

Is acupuncture covered by insurance?

Coverage for acupuncture varies by insurance plan. Some plans cover acupuncture for specific conditions, while others do not. Check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage.

Do you offer direct billing?
